First time doing Martial Arts? Muay Thai?
Take our introductory classes!
Let's start with the basics: what is Muay Thai? Muay Thai is a martial art that’s been around for centuries. It’s a combat sport that utilizes stand-up striking with a variety of clinching techniques. This practice is known as the "art of 8 limbs" involving fists, elbows, knees, and shins. It's more than just a fighting style–it's a way of life.
So what should you expect if this is your first time practicing the sport?
First, we'll set you up at the front desk and provide you with hand wraps and gloves if you don't have them. Once registered and wrapped up, you will warm up by jumping rope, and then be separated into a smaller group for your intro session. One of our instructors will then walk you through the basics of Muay Thai. Please try to come 15-20 minutes before class time, so you can make the most of your first session!
If you’re “new-new”, you should expect to take multiple intros focusing on the fundamentals — including stance, movement, and throwing a punch/kick/knee/elbow. Another essential element of Muay Thai is the art of pad holding. You'll be amazed by how much of a workout you can provide and receive just by holding pads. Having a good pad-holding partner will not only benefit your technique but will also strengthen your communication skills.
Feel free to drop into any of our “Muay Thai All Levels + Intro (Beginners)” classes to attend!
